Procedure
84 mg of LiOH/H2O are added to a solution of 180 mg of ethyl (S)-3-fluoro-2-oxo-1-phenylpyrrolidine-3-carboxylate in THF/H2O=3:1, and the mixture is stirred at RT for 4 h. When the reaction is complete, the batch is neutralised using 1.5 N HCl. The aqueous phase is extracted with ethyl acetate, and the organic phase is dried over sodium sulfate. Removal of the solvent in vacuo gives 90 mg of (S)-3-fluoro-2-oxo-1-phenylpyrrolidine-3-carboxylic acid;
