Combine methyl 2-methoxy-5-(1H-tetrazol-5-yl)benzoate (1 mmol) and lithium hydroxide (1.1 mmol) in 1/1 tetrahydrofuran/water (5 mL). After 24 hours, dilute the reaction mixture with a 0.5M aqueous hydrochloric acid solution and dichloromethane. Separate the layers and extract the aqueous layer three times with dichloromethane. Combine the organic layers, dry over MgSO4, filter, and evaporate in vacuo to give the title compound.
