Procedure

A solution of the product of Example 2 (75 g) in 750 mL acetic acid was reduced over PtO2 catalyst at 60 psi hydrogen atmosphere at 60° C. for 7 hours. The solution was filtered, concentrated and triturated with ether to afford the title compound quantitatively as a white solid which was used directly in subsequent reactions.
