To a solution of ethyl (1S, 3R, 4R)-2-[(4-methoxyphenyl)sulfonyl]-2-azabicyclo[2.2.1]heptane-3-carboxylate (965 mg, 2.84 mmol) in tetrahydrofuran (40 ml)-methanol (10 ml) was added 1N sodium hydroxide (16 ml), and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 3 hours. The reaction mixture was acidified with 1N hydrochloric acid and extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic layer was washed with saturated brine and dried over magnesium sulfate. The solvent was evaporated, to give (1S, 3R, 4R)-2-[(4-methoxyphenyl)sulfonyl]-2-azabicyclo[2.2.1]heptane-3-carboxylic acid.
