A mixture of 4-chloromethyl-5-methyl-2-(2-thienyl)oxazole (338 mg), methyl 3-[1-(4-hydroxybenzyl)-3-phenyl-1H-pyrazol-4-yl]propionate (500 mg), potassium carbonate (397 mg) and N,N-dimethylformamide (7 ml) was stirred at room temperature for 18 hours. The reaction mixture was poured into water, which was extracted with ethyl acetate. The ethyl acetate layer was washed with saturated aqueous sodium chloride solution, dried (MgSO4), then concentrated. The residue was subjected to silica gel column chromatography, and methyl 3-[1-[4-[5-methyl-2-(2-thienyl)-4-oxazolylmethoxy]benzyl]-3-phenyl-1H-pyrazol-4-yl]propionate (715 mg, yield: 88%) was obtained as a colorless oily substance from the fraction eluted with ethyl acetate-hexane (2:3, volume ratio).
