A mixture of ethyl 3-[3-ethoxy-1-[3-(5-methyl-2-phenyl-4-oxazolylmethoxy)benzyl]-1H-pyrazol-4-yl]propionate (808 mg), 1N aqueous sodium hydroxide solution (4 ml), tetrahydrofuran (8 ml), and ethanol (8 ml) was stirred at room temperature for 3 hours, diluted with 1 N hydrochloric acid (4 ml), and extracted with ethyl acetate. The ethyl acetate layer was washed with saturated aqueous sodium chloride solution, dried (MgSO4), and concentrated. The residue was subjected to silica gel column chromatography, and 3-[3-ethoxy-1-[3-(5-methyl-2-phenyl-4-oxazolylmethoxy)benzyl]-1H-pyrazol-4-yl]propionic acid (709 mg, yield: 93%) was obtained as a colorless oily substance from the fraction eluted with ethyl acetate-methanol (5:1, volume ratio).
