A mixture of ethyl 3-[1-(4-hydroxybenzyl)-3-phenyl-1H-pyrazol-4-yl]propionate (460 mg), 2-chloromethyl-1-methyl-1H-benzimidazole (250 mg), potassium carbonate (360 mg) and N,N-dimethylformamide (15 ml) was stirred at 80° C. for 5 hours. The reaction mixture was poured into water, and extracted with ethyl acetate. The ethyl acetate layer was washed with saturated aqueous sodium chloride solution, dried (MgSO4) and concentrated. The residue was subjected to silica gel column chromatography to obtain ethyl 3-[1-[4-(1-methyl-1H-benzimidazol-2-ylmethoxy)benzyl]-3-phenyl-1H-pyrazol-4-yl]propionate (550 mg, yield: 85%) as a colorless oily substance from the fraction eluted with ethyl acetate-hexane (2:1, volume ratio).
