Procedure

The compound 3-amino-4-methyl-benzene-N,N-dimethylsulfonamide is diazotized with an alkyl nitrite like tert-butyl nitrite under anhydrous conditions in a non-reactive solvent like tetrahydrofuran or dichloromethane.
