A solution of 0.35 g (0.0031 mole) of methanesulfonyl chloride in 5 mL of tetrahydrofuran was added to a stirred solution of 0.8 g (0.0028 mole) of 2-(2,4-dichloro-5-hydroxyphenyl)-4-methyl-1,2,4-triazine-3,5-(2H,4H)-dione (Compound 9, Example III H) and 0.30 g (0.0031 mole) of triethylamine in 10 mL of tetrahydrofuran. The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for approximately 18 hours, then diluted with water. The resultant mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate, and the extract was dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate. The dried extract was filtered, and the filtrate was evaporated under reduced pressure to give 0.81 g of 2-(2,4-dichloro-5-methylsulfonyloxyphenyl)-4-methyl-1,2,4-triazine-3,5(2H,4H)-dione as a solid, Compound 23 in the tables.
