Procedure

To a solution of 0.90 g of 2-iodo-N-(2-iodo-phenyl)benzeneethanamine in 4 ml of tetrahydrofuran is added 0.41 g of triethylamine, and 0.57 g of 4-nitro-benzoyl chloride. The mixture is stirred at room temperature for 2 hours and the solvent removed under vacuum. The residue is dissolved in ethyl acetate-di-chloromethane (5:1) and the solution washed with 1N HCl, saturated NaHCO3, brine and dried (Na2SO4). The solution is filtered through a thin pad of hydrous magnesium silicate. The filtrate is evaporated and the residual solid triturated with diethyl ether and hexane to give 1.10 g of product as a white solid.
