To a solution of 2-(5-methylsulfonylamino-2-methoxyphenyl)-1,3-dioxolane (8.63 g, 31.6 mmol) in DMF (30 ml) was added NaH (1.51 g, 37.9 mmol) and methyl iodide (2.36 ml, 37.9 mmol) and then stirred at 60° C. for 1 hr. After aqueous ammonium chloride was added to the reaction mixture, the mixture was extracted with ether/CH2Cl2. The extract was dried over MgSO4 and evaporated in vacuo to give crude 2-[5-(N-methyl-N-methylsulfonylamino)-2-methoxyphenyl]-1,3-dioxolane (10.29 g) as a brown oil.
