3.95 g (0.025 mol) of 2-methyl-2-ethyl-1,3-dioxane-4,6-dione and 4.15 g (0.025 mol) of veratraldehyde were weighed in to 25 ml of the mixture of formic acid and triethylamine prepared as described in Example 1. The reaction mixture was heated to 95° C. during 1 hour and maintained at the same temperature for 2 hours, then Example 1 was followed.
