A mixture of 6.0 g of 1-chloro-6-hydroxy-4-nitro-9H-xanthen-9-one and 5.4 g of [2-(diethylamino)ethyl]-hydrazine and 3.9 ml of diisopropylethylamine in 100 ml of N,N-dimethylformamide was stirred at 25° C. for three hours. The mixture was evaporated and the residue crystallized from 2-propanol to afford the title compound, a salt with one equivalent of hydrogen chloride, mp 285° C. (decomposition).
