The above guanidine (1.121 g.) was dissolved in dry tetrahydrofuran (40 ml.) and thionyl chloride (0.7 ml.) was added. After 45 minutes at 30°-40° volatile material was evaporated in vacuo to give 1-(3-chloromethylphenyl)-3-(2,2,2-trifluoroethyl)guanidine as a syrup.
