N-[2-(2-(Phenylsulfonylamino)phenyl)ethyl]-N-methylcarbamic acid tert-butyl ester (547 mg, 1.4 mmol) was dissolved in dichloromethane (5 ml). 3.1 N hydrogen chloride in ethyl acetate (3 ml, 9.3 mmol) was added. The solution was stirred at room temperature for 1 h. Another portion of 3.1 N hydrogen chloride in ethyl acetate (5 ml, 15.3 mmol) was added. The solution was stirred for another 3.5 h. The solvent was removed in vacuo. The crude product was purified by flash chromatography on silcia (7 g), using dichloromethane/methanol/25% aqueous ammonia 50:10:1 as eluent, to give 521 mg of N-[2-(2-(methylamino)ethyl)phenyl]benzenesulfonamide.
