A solution of (E)-3-[2-n-butyl-1-{(2-chlorophenyl)methyl}-1H-imidazol-5-yl]-2-(2-thienyl)methyl-2-propenoic acid (Example 1) (5 mmol) in dry dimethylformamide (10 mL) was treated with 2-chloro-N,N-diethyl-acetamide (5.51 mmol) followed by powdered potassium carbonate. This mixture was heated at 70° C. for 7 hours, diluted with water and extracted with ethyl acetate. The water-washed, dried, concentrated product solidifies and after trituration with ether/hexane affords the title ester; mp 139°-140° C.
