A 1.0 g quantity of 5-trifluoromethyl-2'-deoxyuridine (3.6 mmoles) was dissolved in 3 ml of N,N-dimethylformamide. To the solution were added 0.49 g (7.2 mmoles) of imidazole and 0.64 g (4.3 mmoles) of tertbutyldimethylsilyl chloride, and the reaction was conducted at room temperature for 10 hours. The reaction mixture was treated in the same manner as in Example 1 with the exception of using chloroform/methanol (30:1) as an eluent for silica gel column chromatography, giving 0.6 g of the title compound as white crystals having a melting point of 199° to 200° C. Yield: 41%.
