Procedure
A mixture of 10-bornanamine (1 g.) sodium hydride (0.16 g.) and dimethyl formamide was stirred for 15 min. It was then cooled in an ice bath and allyl bromide (0.55 ml) was added. The mixture was stirred for 2 hours at room temperature and then partitioned between ether and water. The organic layer was dried (MgSO4) and evaporated. The residue (1.04 g.) was subjected to preparative layer chromatography using a mixture of 5% methanol in chloroform for development of the plates. The more polar fraction (0.6 g) was dissolved in dry ether and treated with hydrogen chloride to give 10-allylamino bornane hydrobromide (0.65 g.).
