PROCEDURE

To a mixture of 1.00 g (1.7 mmol) of 1,2-O-dioleylglycerol, 0.83 g (17 mmol) of lithium azide, 0.89 g (3.4 mmol) of triphenylphosphine, and 1.13 g (3.4 mmol) of carbon tetrabromide was added 10 ml of N,N-dimethylformamide in bolus and the mixture was stirred at ambient temperature for 3 hours. After completion of the reaction, the solvent was distilled off and the residue was diluted with water and extracted with ether. The ether layer was washed with water, dried, and concentrated, and the residue was purified by column chromatography (silica gel/n-hexane-ethyl acetate) to provide 1.03 g (100%) of 2,3-dioleyloxypropyl azide as oil.
