Utilizing the procedure described in Example 1(a), 20.0 g of 1-(4-chlorobenzyl)piperazine, 100 ml of dimethyl sulfoxide, 15.0 g of potassium hydroxide and 15.0 of 1-bromo-3-chloropropane yielded 25.1 g (74% of theory) of 1-(4-chlorobenzyl)-4-(3-chloropropyl)piperazine dihydrochloride as a white crystalline solid.
