Ethyl bromoacetate (263 μL, 2.37 mmol) was added to a solution of 2-butyl-4-chloro- 1-{[2′-(1-trityl-1H-tetrazol-5-yl)biphenyl-4-yl]methyl}-1H-imidazole-5-carboxylic acid (Intermediate 4, 1000 mg, 1.48 mmol), and potassium carbonate (347 mg, 2,51 mmol) in N,N-dimethylformamide (10 mL). The solution was stirred for 2 hours at room temperature. Water was added and the solution was extracted with diethyl ether (2×). The organic layers were dried (magnesium sulfate), filtered, and concentrated in vacuo. The residue was used crude in the following step. LC-MS: m/z 787.1 (M+Na).
