A solution of methyl N-hept-6-enoyl-3-methyl-L-valinate (1.40 g, 5.48 mmol) in THF (10 mL) and 1 N NaOH (10 mL) was stirred at 22° C. for 2 hours. The reaction mixture was acidified to pH 3 with 1 N HCl and extracted with EtOAc (3×150 mL). The combined EtOAc layers were washed with water (50 mL), brine (50 mL), dried over Na2SO4, filtered and concentrated to give the title product (1.12 g, 84%). LRMS (ESI) m/z 242.3 [(M+H)+; calcd for C13H24NO3: 242.2].
