In analogy to the procedure described in example 10 c], [rac]-2-ethoxy-3-(4-hydroxy-2-methyl-phenyl)-propionic acid ethyl ester (example 10 b]) was reacted with 2-(4-methyl-2-phenyl-thiazol-5-yl)-ethanol (prepared from (4-methyl-2-phenyl-thiazol-5-yl)-methanol [PCT Int. Appl. (2002), WO 02/80899 A1] according to the reaction sequence described in example 104 a] to c]) in the presence of triphenylphosphine and di-tert-butyl azodicarboxylate to yield [rac]-2-ethoxy-3-{2-methyl-4-[2-(4-methyl-2-phenyl-thiazol-5-yl)-ethoxy]-phenyl}-propionic acid ethyl ester as colorless liquid.
