Procedure

To a stirred solution of 4,4,4-trifluoro-1-(4-bromophenyl)butane-1,3-dione (1 g, 3.39 mmol, prepared according to the method of J. Med. Chem., 1997, 40, 1347) in DME (40 mL) was added furan-2-boronic acid (0.455 g, 4.07 mmol), bis(triphenylphosphine) palladium(II)chloride (0.271 g, 0.386 mmol) and saturated NaHCO3 solution (12 mL) at room temperature under nitrogen. The mixture was heated at reflux temperature for 5 hours, and cooled down to room temperature. The reaction mixture was filtered through celite, the filtrate was poured into water and the whole was extracted with ethyl acetate (30 mL×3). The organic layer was washed with brine, dried over sodium sulfate, and concentrated in vacuo . The residue was purified by flash chromatography eluting with hexane/ethyl acetate (3/1) to give the subtitle compound (0.586 g, 61.2% yield).
