Procedure

A mixture of (4-methoxyphenyl)-(3-methyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)-1-naphth-1-yl methane (1.0 gm, 0.002 mol), epichlorohydrin (25 ml) and anhydrous K2CO3 (4.0 gm) was refluxed at 120° C. for 8 hrs. K2CO3 was filtered off and filtrate was concentrated. The residue obtained was dissolved in ethyl acetate, washed with water, dried over sodium sulphate and concentrated to give an oil which was chromatographed over silica gel using hexane-chloroform as the eluent to give the title compound of general formula I, yield 75 gm (66%).
