A solution of the product from step (a) (46.5 g,) in tetrahydrofuran (260 ml) was cooled to 0° C., and 1M diborane (450 ml, Aldrich) in THF was slowly added. The resulting mixture was heated to reflux for 48 hours, cooled to 0° C., and treated carefully with 6M aqueous HCl. The mixture was heated to reflux for 1.5 hours, concentrated to 400 ml and extracted twice with diethyl ether. The organic layers were dried and concentrated to afford the title product (44.0 g) as a colorless oil. 1H NMR consistent with the proposed structure.
