To a solution of 3-ethoxy-4-hydroxy-5-(methylthio)benzaldehyde (Intermediate 50) (300 mg, 1.42 mmol), 1,2-diphenylethanone (330 mg, 1.68 mmol) and urea (170 mg, 2.80 mmol) in ethanol (5 mL) was added conc. HCl (0.3 mL) and the reaction mixture was refluxed under N2 atmosphere overnight. The resulting mixture was cooled and purified by silica gel column to give desired product (200 mg, yield 33%).
