Procedure

A mixture of 3-chloro-4-hydroxy-5-nitrobenzaldehyde (Intermediate 59) (150 mg, 0.74 mmol), 1,2-diphenylethanone (146.0 mg, 0.74 mmol), urea (133.9 mg, 2.23 mmol), concentrated hydrochloric acid (0.5 mL) in ethanol (3 mL) was refluxed at 78° C. for 45 h. After cooling, the mixture was evaporated and the residue was purified by preparative HPLC to give Compound 120 (129.1 mg, yield 41.4%). 1HNMR (DMSO-d6 400 MHz): δ 11.09 (s, 1H), 8.79 (s, 1H), 7.87 (d, J=2.0 Hz, 1H), 7.71 (d, J=2.0 Hz, 1H), 7.59 (s, 1H), 7.27-7.21 (m, 5H), 7.05-7.00 (m, 3H), 6.83-6.81 (m, 2H), 5.28 (d, J=2.8 Hz, 1H); MS (ESI): m/z 422.0 [M+H]+.
