tert-Butyl 7-[4-(4-pyridinyl)butyl]-9-oxa-3,7-diazabicyclo[3.3.1]nonane-3-carboxylate (0.9 g, 2.5 mmol, from step (i) above) was dissolved in ethylacetate, and then treated with ethylacetate saturated with HCl at 0° C. The mixture was stirred for 1 h at 0° C., and then at rt overnight. The solvent was evaporated. CH3CN (100 mL) and water (2 mL) were added together with K2CO3 (3.22 g). The mixture was stirred overnight. Filtration and evaporation gave the sub-title compound in 94% yield.
