2-[5-(4-Bromo-phenyl)-1H-imidazol-2-yl]-pyrrolidine-1-carboxylic acid benzyl ester (2.31 g, 5.42 mmol), (4-tert-Butoxycarbonylaminophenyl)-boronic acid (1.28 g, 5.42 mmol), Pd(PPh3)4 (313 mg, 0.271 mmol) and K2CO3 (6 mL of 2 M aqueous solution, 11.92 mmol) were combined with 1,2-dimethoxyethane (20 mL). The suspension was stirred while N2 was bubbled through the solution for 14 min. A reflux condenser was attached and the suspension was heated to 85° C. for 15 hours. It was then cooled, diluted with ethyl acetate (150 mL), washed with water and brine, dried over sodium sulfate and concentrated. The crude product was purified by silica column chromatography (25% to 50% EtOAc/hexanes) to provide 2-[5-(4′-tert-Butoxycarbonylamino-biphenyl-4-yl)-1H-imidazol-2-yl]-pyrrolidine-1-carboxylic acid benzyl ester (1.20 g, 41%).
