Procedure
A suspension of 373 (1.05 g, 3.26 mmol), 2-fluoro-4-nitrophenol (1.10 g, 7.00 mmol), and K2CO3 (2.0 g, 15 mmol) in diphenyl ether (10 mL) was heated with stirring to 185° C. for 3 h. The mixture was cooled, diluted with dichloromethane, filtered, and the filtrate was concentrated. Silica gel chromatography (75% ethyl acetate/hexanes) of the residue provided 374 (0.98 g, 68% yield). 1H NMR (400 MHz, CD3OD) δ (ppm): 8.52 (d, J=5.3, 1H); 8.46 (dd, J=10.4, 2.5, 1H); 8.20-8.17 (m, 1H); 7.89 (d, J=1.2, 1H), 7.77-7.74 (m, 1H); 7.75 (s, 1H); 7.69 (t, J=8.2, 1H); 6.86 (d, J=5.3, 1H); 5.04 (s, 2H); 4.17 (q, J=7.2, 2H); 1.22 (t, J=7.2, 3H). LRMS (M+H): 442.9.
