To 5-ethenyl-2-nitrophenyl ethyl ether (0.53 g, 2.74 mmol) in 10 mL of iPrOH was added, 1-methylpiperazine (0.41 g, 4.11 mmol). The mixture was heated to 120° C. for 2 h. The solvent was rotovaped down and the crude product was purified by flash chromatography to give the title compound of step C (0.708 g, 2.4 mmol, 88%). 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3) δ ppm 7.75 (d, J=8.42 Hz, 1H), 6.90 (d, J=1.47 Hz, 1H), 6.82 (dd, J=8.42, 1.47 Hz, 1H), 4.15 (q, J=6.96 Hz, 2H), 2.78-2.83 (m, 2H), 2.33-2.88 (m, 10H), 2.30 (s, 3H), 1.46 (t, J=6.96 Hz, 3H).
