1-[2-Ethyl-5-(methyloxy)-4-nitrophenyl]-4-[2-(methylsulfonyl)ethyl]piperazine (1.7 g, 4.7 mmol) was taken up in EtOAc (30 mL) and EtOH (15 mL). The catalyst, 5% sulfided platinum on carbon (300 mg) was added. The reaction was placed under 1 atm of H2 gas and was allowed to stir at room temperature for 5 days. The catalyst was filtered off and the filtrate was concentrated in vacuo to give the title compound without further purification (1.4 g, 4.1 mmol, 86%). MS (M+H, ES+) 342.
