35 ml of 5N NaOHaq was added to a solution of 15.15 g of ethyl 1-cyclopropyl-4-methoxy-1H-indole-6-carboxylate in MeOH and the mixture was stirred at 60° C. for 8 hrs. The mixture was cooled to 0° C. and 35 ml of 5N HCl was added thereto. The precipitate was filtered and dried in vacuo to give 13.8 g of 1-cyclopropyl-4-methoxy-1H-indole-6-carboxylic acid as a colorless solid.
