4-Cyanoindole (850 mg) was dissolved in EtOH (25 ml). To this solution was added NaHCO3 (2.51 g) and NH2OH.HCl (831 mg). The mixture was heated to 70° C. and stirred overnight. The reaction was incomplete so was heated at 80° C. for a further 4 hours. The reaction mixture was filtered and evaporated to give the title compound (980 mg) as a yellow semisolid. No purification attempted.
