Procedure

A mixture containing 3-nitro[1,5]naphthyridine-4-ol (7.5 g), methanol (200 mL), ammonium hydroxide (50 mL) and 5% platinum on carbon (0.75 g) was placed on a Parr apparatus for 6 hours. The reaction mixture was filtered to remove catalyst and then filtered a second time using Celite® filter aid. The filtrate was concentrated under vacuum to provide 6.1 g of 3-amino[1,5]naphthyridin-4-ol as a brown solid.
