Procedure
A solution of the product 45A (63 mg, 0.26 mmol) in ethyl acetate (1 mL) was treated with p-toluenesulfonic acid monohydrate (49 mg, 0.27 mmol) and stirred for 5 minutes. Then ethyl ether (30 ml) was added and stirred for an additional 5 minutes. The ether was decanted and the procedure was repeated. The residue was then dried under vacuum to provide 48 as a white solid. MS (CI/NH3) m/e 243(M+H)+. 1H NMR (D2O, 300 MHz) δ: 1.39 (d, J=7 Hz, 3H), 2.09 (m, 1H), 2.33 (m, 1H), 2.37 (s, 3H), 2.38 (s, 3H), 2.87 (s, 6H), 3.70 (m, 1H), 4.15-4.27 (m, 2H), 7.35 (d, J=8 Hz, 2H), 7.37 (d, J=4 Hz, 1H) 7.68 (d, J=8 Hz, 2H), 7.87 (d, J=3 Hz, 1H).
