Procedure
A mixture of 2-azaspiro-[5.5]-undec-7-ene (30.2 g.; 0.20 mole), 2-bromoethanol (25 g.; 0.20 mole) and triethylamine (20.2 g.) in toluene (250 ml.) is heated under reflux for 5 hours. The solution is cooled, filtered to removed triethylamine hydrobromide and the filtrate concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue liquid is distilled under reduced pressure to afford 28 g. (72% yield) of 2-hydroxyethyl-2-azaspiro-[5.5]-undec-7-ene, b.p. 90°-91° C./0.45 mm.
