A mixture of 1c (5.42 g. 0.02 mole), resorcinol (1.10 g., 0.02 mole), and sodium hydroxide (0.8 g., 0.02 mole) was refluxed for 3 hours in a mixture of chloroform (50 ml.) and water (15 ml.). Upon cooling a solid separated between the layers which was filtered, air-dried, and amounted to 2.43 g. (42%) of 1f. UV (CH2CH2) λ max 306 nm (52,000), ε325 = 13,000.
