A mixture of 32 mg of 5,7-dihydroxy-2-methylsulfinylchromone (0.134 mmol), 20 mg of 4-hydroxybenzenethiol (0.161 mmol), 41 mg of potassium carbonate (0. 295 mmol) and 2 ml acetone was stirred overnight at room temperature. The reaction solution was neutralized with dilute hydrochloric acid and then extracted twice with ethyl acetate. The organic layer was washed with saturated NaCl water and dried over sodium sulfate anhydride. The solvent was distilled off under reduced pressure, and the crude product was subjected to recrystallization from acetone-hexane, to give 14.6 mg of 5,7-dihydroxy-2-(4-hydroxyphenylthio)chromone (36% yield).
