A mixture of compound 47 (3.00 g, 0.014 mol), hydrogen peroxide (30% w/v, 150 ml) and THF (200 ml) was heated under reflux for 3 h. The water/THF mixture was removed in vacuo and the oily residue was dissolved in diethyl ether and washed with water. The ether was dried (MgSO4) and evaporated in vacuo to give a viscous, fawn oil.
