To 2-benzyl-2H-pyrazol-3-ylamine (5.0 g, 0.0289 mol) was added 2-ethoxymethylene-malonic acid diethyl ester (5.78 mL, 0.0289 mol) and the mixture was heated at 120° C. for 4 hours. After cooling down to RT, the crude mixture was purified by column chromatography (SiO2, EtOAc/Heptane 1/1) to give 7.44 g (75%) of the title compound as a light yellow oil.
