To a solution of 2-[[4-(methylthio)phenyl]amino]isonicotinohydrazide (513 mg, 1.87 mmol) in N,N-dimethylacetamide (5 mL) was added dropwise 2-chloro-1,1-dimethyl-2-oxoethyl acetate (0.294 mL, 2.06 mmol) under ice-cooling, and the resulting mixture was stirred at room temperature for 2 hr. The reaction mixture was diluted with ethyl acetate, washed with water and saturated brine, dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate, and concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was recrystallized from hexane/ethyl acetate to give the title compound (624 mg, yield 83%) as colorless crystals.
