A mixture of {(S)-1-[(S)-1-(2,3-Dihydro-benzo[1,4]dioxin-2-yl)methyl]-3-methyl-piperidin-3-yl}methanol (134 mg, 0.48 mmol), tetrabutylammonium bromide (0.031 mg, 0.10 mmol) and 50% NaOH solution (2 ml) in toluene (2 ml) was stirred at room temperature for 15 min. Methyl iodide (0.24 ml, 3.86 mmol) was added drop wise and the mixture was stirred for 6 h 45 min. Saturated NaCl, water and EtOAc were added and the phases were separated. The aqueous phase was extracted twice with EtOAc and combined organic phases were washed with water and saturated NaCl. The organic phase was dried (Na2SO4), filtered and evaporated to dryness. The crude product was purified with flash chromatography using gradient of heptane and EtOAc as eluent to give 27 mg of the title compound.
