To a solution of 3-(1-acetyl-piperidin-4-yl)-7-trifluoromethyl-benzo[b]thiophene-2-carboxylic acid methyl ester (4.10 g, 10.6 mmol) in THF (25 mL) was added 0.5 N aqueous sodium hydroxide (23.4 mL, 11.7 mmol) and the reaction stirred at room temperature. After 18 h, the reaction was acidified with 1 N HCl (200 mL) and the mixture extracted with DCM (2×100 mL). The organics were washed with water (100 mL), dried over magnesium sulfate, filtered, and concentrated to give 4.13 g of the desired product as a white foam.
