To a mixture of tert-butyl (4-methyl-4-piperidinyl)carbamate obtained in Example 10–5 (415 mg) and potassium carbonate (321 mg) in N,N-dimethylformamide (4.5 mL), was added chloropyrazine (665 mg). The mixture was heated at 100° C. with stirring for 24 hrs. The resulting mixture was partitioned between saturated aqueous sodium hydrogencarbonate and ethyl acetate. The organic layer was washed with water and brine, dried over MgSO4, and concentrated in vacuo. The residue was chromatographed on silica gel eluting with hexane and ethyl acetate (2:1) to give the title compound as a pale yellow oil (566 mg).
