Procedure

44.6 g (0.14 mol) of methyl 4-methylsulfonyl-3-fluoro-2-bromomethylbenzoate were dissolved in THF. 10.58 g (0.15 mol) of sodium thiomethoxide were added at RT and the mixture was then heated under reflux for 5 h. It was then poured onto ice-water and extracted with EE. The combined organic phases were dried over MgSO4 and concentrated to completion.
