A mixture of 3-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxy-phenyl)-propionic acid (5.1 g, 25.99 mmol), anhydrous K2CO3 (25 g, 180.88 mmol) and benzyl bromide (7.5 ml, 63.14 mmol) in anhydrous acetone (100 ml) was stirred at reflux for 7.5 h under nitrogen. After cooling, the reaction mixture was filtered and concentrated in vacuo. Flash chromatography (CH2Cl2) gave the title compound (8.83 g, 23.45 mmol, 90%).
