Procedure
A mixture of 1.85 g (0.00939 mole) of 2-chloro-4-trifluoromethylphenol (Example 1, Part A), 2.1 g (0.0093 mole) of 2-(2-methyl-2-propenylthio)-4-fluoronitrobenzene (Part A), and 1.3 g (0.0094 mole) of potassium carbonate in 25 ml of dimethyl formamide was stirred at 60° C. for three hours. The mixture was poured into water and extracted with chloroform. The chloroform extract was washed with water and dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate. After filtration, the chloroform was evaporated under reduced pressure. The residue was subjected to a hagh vacuum, leaving 2.5 g of 3-(2-methyl-2-propenylthio)-4-nitrophenyl 2-chloro-4-trifluoromethylphenyl ether as an oil.
