5-(4-Acetonylbenzyl)-2-iminothiazolidine-4-one (1g) was heated under reflux in a mixture of 2-methoxyethanol 20 ml and 2N HCl (5 ml) for 8 h. The cooled mixture was diluted with water and the resulting precipitate filtered and dried under vacuum to give 5-(4-acetonylbenzyl)thiazolidine-2,4-dione as a white solid, mp 133°-135° C.
